Overview
This introduction frames a new generation of scholarship in political theology by asking how theological concepts continue to organise political imagination, authority, belonging, and resistance beyond conventional church–state debates. It situates emerging work in relation to changing global conditions and invites comparative engagement with traditions and political experiences that have often remained marginal within the field. The contribution is programmatic: political theology is presented as a critical method for examining how claims about ultimacy, sovereignty, community, and moral obligation enter public life. By opening the field to a wider range of religious actors and contexts, the article supports a more plural and internationally attentive political theology. It also establishes a conceptual setting for later work on Muslim political thought, citizenship, liberation, and ethical agency.
